Metallisation
At Petersen Straalbedrijf we can also provide the better type of corrosion protection treatment: metallisation.
In this process, a zinc wire is melted in an oxygen-fuel gas flame. This molten material is atomised by compressed air and propelled towards the object and forms a strong coating.
Before metallising an object it is necessary to have a thorougly blast cleaned surface to a preparation grade of Sa 3 (When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease and dirt, and shall be free from mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter and have a uniform metallic colour).
The metal layer applied can, for instance, be zinc, aluminium or layers of both metals. In many cases this treatment is the first prior to the application of paint. We have a metallisation booth of 10 x 5 x 4 metre in our 750 M² size blasting hall.
